Meet The Assistants

Diving Coach Katy Shoemaker - A former standout diver at Trinity College in Connecticut, Katy Shoemaker provides competitive and coaching experience in her second year with Wheaton. Shoemaker was a four-year member of the Bantams' swimming and diving team, and she set school records in the one-meter, six-dives category and in the three-meter, 11-dives discipline. During the 2005-06 school year, Shoemaker assisted divers at Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut, and also taught age-group diving at Trinity. Shoemaker was also a three-year coxswain for the Trinity men's crew team. She earned a bachelor's degree in sociology in May 2006.

Assistant Coach James Martin - Jim hails from Arlington, MA. He was a US Swimmer for eleven years. During his high school days he swam for the former Massachusetts Bay Marlins (now BOSS) where he was a champion breast stroker. He took his swimming to the University of New Hampshire where he was the top scoring freshman at America Easts Championships in 1999 (2nd, 200 breast/3rd, 100 breast/14th, 500 free). Since his college days, Jim has been teaching environmental education to children throughout New England. He also ran the waterfront program at Camp Cody in New Hampshire for four years until finally returning to Boston to coach the masters swim team at the University Club of Boston. Currently Jim is pursuing a Master's Degree in Education from Lesley University.

Assistant Coach Jen Peck - Jen joins the Wheaton College Men's and Women's swim team for the '08-'09 seaon as a volunteer coach. She has been competitively swimming since the age of 7 in Rochester, NY. She spent 11 years with her club team, Fairport Area Swim Team (FAST) and 3 years with her varsity high school team. Jen also swam for Ithaca College for 4 years. As captain of her junior and senior years, she helped lead the team to NYS DIII Champions (specialty in sprint freestyle and breaststroke). Jen received her Master's Degree in Physical Therapy (Ithaca College) and went on to earn her certification in Athletic Training (SUNY Brockport). She currently works at Marathon Physical Therapy and has interests in pilates-based core training and triathalons.
